This site is for people who manage investment advisors. Feel free to move on if you don’t do that or never will. Go ahead. No seriously, this site is not for you.
Chances are someone told you about this site. Some of these referrals are positive for you. If you got this from:
> A trusted peer: This is good since they read something in here that makes sense. Read this with enthusiasm.
> A spouse: This is almost certainly good as your spouse wants you to be happy, content, and to make some money. They think this site might do some of that.
> A former boss: This is probably good too as this person has no real interest in you except for seeing you successful.
However, some referrals are questionable at best. If you heard about this site from:
> Your boss who is a regional director or higher: This is certainly bad news for you as he/she thinks you don’t know what you are doing. At very best case, they are starting to lose confidence in you. Stop reading this now, change firms, change careers, or find a way to make your boss go away like calling Guido. In other words, you are a dead man walking.
> Your firm’s training department: This is bad for you too but in a very indirect way. Training departments (especially management training departments) are really well intentioned but ultimately don’t know what they are doing. Therefore, if they like this site, it is not as good as we think. In other words, this is a waste of your time.
> A headhunter: These are very savvy people in search of a commission. They only get paid if you change firms. They think this site will prove they only have your best interests at heart. Since this is a lie, this site must be full of lies too. Be cynical reading this.
This site is the manager’s friend. (Click here for our definition of a friend.)
It is aimed at, and the case studies are provided by, other people who manage or managed retail investment advisors, RIA’s, planners or other folks like that. Its not balanced with others’ views about managers. We don’t care. They can get their own site. One thing we absolutely know is that a manager’s life is defined by the quality of relationships he or she has with those above and below.
To get the hang of this site read the Introduction or just go to the Case Studies which is the main reason to be here.
